Sri Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga has created history by becoming only the second bowler in ODI history to take three consecutive five-wicket hauls. The only other bowler to have achieved this feat is veteran Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis, who did so in the 1990 World Cup.

Wanindu Hasaranga equals world record for most consecutive fifers in ODIs

Hasaranga’s latest five-wicket haul came in Sri Lanka’s win over Ireland in match 15 of the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023. He took five wickets for 79 runs, which was the second most expensive five wicket haul in ODI history. However, it was enough to hand Sri Lanka a comfortable 133-run victory and seal their place in the Super-6 stage of the tournament.

Wanindu Hasaranga has been in excellent form in the World Cup qualifiers. He has taken 16 wickets in three matches, including two four-wicket hauls. His performances have been a major factor in Sri Lanka’s unbeaten run in the tournament.

With Hasaranga in such good form, Sri Lanka will be hoping to go all out and qualify for the 2023 World Cup. They have a strong squad and if they continue with their current form, they will be hard to beat.

Hasaranga has picked up impressive figures of 6/24, 5/13 and 5/79 in his last three matches respectively. For this reason, Sri Lanka has not lost a single match in the World Cup qualifier tournament.
