Nintendo’s June Direct mixed near-term upgrades with games that are still further away. The presentation, held on 9 June in the US, included a rebuilt The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, Kingdom Hearts IV and Xenoblade Genesis.
For anyone deciding what to play or which console to buy, the dates deserve as much attention as the names. A reveal, a release window and an available download are three different things.
Separate this year’s plans from later releases
Nintendo lists the Switch 2 version of Ocarina of Time for 2026, without giving an exact release day in the announcement. Kingdom Hearts IV is confirmed for Switch 2 at launch, but this announcement does not supply a launch date. Xenoblade Genesis is scheduled for 2027.
More definite dates accompany other games. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is due on 22 October, with 12 sports in the announced package. A Kingdom Hearts collection is scheduled for 8 October, moving to native releases on Switch 2 rather than the earlier cloud-based approach.
That difference can matter for people whose connection made cloud play unattractive. It should not, however, be treated as proof that every game in the series has the same platform requirements or release arrangements. Check the specific listing and edition before ordering.
An upgrade that starts sooner
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition received a digital release alongside the presentation, with a physical release set for 30 July. Nintendo also describes a paid upgrade pack for owners of the original Switch version.
An upgrade pack and a complete game purchase are different products. Existing owners should check which base game they hold and which purchase path applies before paying for another full copy. Nintendo also mentions a discount arrangement for eligible owners of the earlier cloud Kingdom Hearts releases; the conditions matter as much as the headline offer.
These announcements add several reasons to watch the Switch 2 calendar, but they do not make all the games immediately available. Australian store dates, editions and prices should be checked locally, especially when a US announcement lands the next day here.
