Google has announced Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL, all powered by its Tensor G6 chip. The 12 August launch brings updated cameras, changes to the camera bar and a 256GB starting storage configuration across the three models.
The announcement combines hardware specifications with new Gemini-related experiences. Buyers should check those two parts separately, because a phone’s physical features and an online service’s eligibility requirements are different questions.
A familiar design with some practical changes
Google says the standard Pixel 11 has a camera bar that is 40 per cent thinner than its predecessor’s. The available colours are Pistachio, Hibiscus, Frost and Obsidian. The Pro models come in Canyon, Fog, Olive and Obsidian.
For the Pro and Pro XL, Google specifies a Super Actua display with up to 3,600 nits of brightness and a new anti-scratch coating. Those durability and brightness claims come from the manufacturer and its stated test conditions. They are not a substitute for evidence of ordinary use, and they do not make a protective case or careful handling irrelevant.
Starting storage is a straightforward improvement to compare with the phone you already own. Check how much space your photos, downloads and applications consume, then consider how that will grow over the time you expect to keep a replacement.
Cameras and notifications
The standard Pixel 11 gets a new 48-megapixel main camera sensor. Google also describes expanded zoom capability and other camera changes across the range. Image quality will need to be judged from representative photographs, including motion and difficult lighting, rather than from the sensor resolution alone.
The Pro models introduce HiLight, a set of coloured LEDs around the camera flash. Google describes patterns that indicate Gemini activity and colours associated with incoming callers. Message notifications from selected contacts are described as a later addition, so they should not be counted among the initial features.
The idea is to make some information visible while the phone is face down. Whether that is useful will depend on where you keep your phone and how you manage notifications already. Another notification surface can be helpful for a specific purpose without needing to become a reason to upgrade by itself.
Compare the local offer
Google’s launch also lists charging improvements, including Qi 2.2 compatibility at 25W on Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro. Check the charger and accessory requirements attached to the model you choose rather than assuming existing equipment provides the advertised rate.
Australian buyers should confirm local pricing, availability and the language and account requirements for the AI features they want. The strongest purchase case connects those details with a limitation in the current phone, such as storage, battery condition or a camera need that is not being met.
