Microsoft’s new Surface devices for business are arriving in two processor waves. The company announced Intel Core Ultra Series 3 models on 19 May, with devices using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 platform due later in 2026.
That timing matters when comparing a product name with a quote from a supplier. A newly announced Surface family does not mean that every processor, screen size and connectivity option is on sale together.
Compare the configuration, not just the name
The range includes Surface Laptop and Surface Pro models aimed at business use. Microsoft’s announcement describes a 13-inch Laptop with 16 GB and 24 GB memory configurations initially, and an 8 GB option to follow. It also identifies removable PCIe Gen 4 storage and Wi-Fi 7 support for that model.
The larger Laptop options include 13.8-inch and 15-inch screens. A privacy display is available on selected 13.8-inch configurations; it is not a feature to assume across the entire range.
Surface Pro retains the detachable-keyboard approach, with 5G options for the 13-inch device. A mobile connection can be useful away from office Wi-Fi, but the relevant model, network support and service plan need checking separately.
These details affect work more directly than treating every new machine as an interchangeable AI PC. An employee who depends on a particular peripheral, driver or specialised application needs compatibility confirmed for the exact hardware and software combination.
What to check before a business order
Start with the applications that must run and the displays and accessories that must connect. Then compare memory, storage, keyboard arrangements, mobile connectivity and support terms on the actual quote.
Microsoft publishes performance and battery claims for specified configurations and workloads. Those claims are useful context but do not establish the battery life of a different model in your own working day. We have not tested these devices for this report.
The announcement concerns availability in selected markets. Australian pricing and stock should be confirmed locally, rather than converted from a US price or inferred from the global launch date.
