Apple has previewed Siri AI and its next major software releases at WWDC26. The announcements cover iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27, with developer testing beginning on 8 June and a public beta planned for July.
The distinction between a preview and general availability is central to the announcement. Apple says the free software updates will arrive later in the year, and Siri AI itself will begin as a beta in English on supported devices.
Siri gains more context
Apple describes an assistant that can answer questions about information on the screen, use personal context across applications and search the web for current information. A new Siri mode in the iPhone Camera app is intended to help users ask about what is in front of them.
These capabilities are part of Apple’s preview. The demonstrations establish what the company is developing, but they do not show that every feature is ready for ordinary use or available on every device that receives an operating-system update.
Apple Intelligence requirements remain a separate check. The announcement lists supported hardware, including iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, Macs with M1 or later, and MacBook Neo. Language and regional restrictions also apply. Installing an operating system cannot add unsupported hardware capabilities.
Family controls and everyday changes
The software preview includes new child-account setup options and parental controls. Apple describes Ask to Browse, which can require parental approval before a child accesses a new website in Safari, alongside changes to Screen Time and communication safeguards.
These controls are worth reviewing as a family when the finished software becomes available. Their usefulness depends on the accounts and devices involved and on how the settings are configured. A feature appearing in a keynote does not mean an existing family account has already adopted it.
Apple also outlines performance and connectivity improvements across its platforms. Those remain vendor claims based on pre-release software and selected tests. Wait for evidence on the devices you own before treating a headline speed improvement as a reason to replace hardware.
A sensible beta decision
People who rely on a phone or computer for work should distinguish curiosity about the new tools from a need to install beta software. A compatible spare device is a more controlled way to explore a preview than the only device holding essential accounts and files.
