Bitwarden’s browser extension has gained an optional feature for websites whose login forms regularly defeat normal autofill. Fill assist, included in browser version 2026.6.0 released on 25 June, uses a maintained set of instructions for supported sites.
Instead of expecting one general rule to recognise every unusual form, Bitwarden can describe where credentials belong on a particular page. The change is relevant to anyone who repeatedly copies a password into the same awkward sign-in screen.
A targeted fix for awkward forms
Password managers normally inspect a page to identify fields such as username and password. Websites can make that difficult through unusual structures or behaviour. Bitwarden’s release notes describe a curated selection of sites for which Fill assist supplies more specific instructions.
The feature is available in the extension’s Settings → Autofill menu. It is optional, and the announcement does not claim that every unsupported or broken form is covered.
This is also different from changing a saved password. The feature concerns where an existing credential is placed. It does not reset the account, replace two-step verification or make an unrecognised website trustworthy.
If a page still behaves incorrectly, first check that the saved item belongs to the intended domain and that the browser extension is current. Then note which part fails: finding the account, filling a field or submitting the form. Those are different problems, and a precise description is more useful than repeatedly changing the password.
Keep the release numbers straight
Bitwarden’s combined release notes use server version numbers while listing the associated client versions. The entry labelled 2026.6.1 includes Browser Extension 2026.6.0. The browser’s own release is dated 25 June; it is not necessary for its version to match the server label character for character.
The same release cycle includes other interface changes, such as greying out Sync vault now while a vault sync is already running. These small changes can make the extension’s state clearer without altering the underlying account details.
