Google’s Googlebook laptops go on sale in Australia today, 5 October, with four models from ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo starting at A$2,299 RRP. Google Australia announced the local line-up on 21 September and said devices would be on shelves here from 5 October.
Googlebook is a new category of laptop built on Android, with desktop foundations from ChromeOS and Google’s Gemini assistant built in. Google pitches it at people who already use an Android phone: settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages move across when you sign in, and features such as Continue On, phone file access and Cast My Apps let you carry on a task or open a phone app from the laptop. Google’s footnotes say these phone features require setup and an Android phone running Android 17 or later.
The four Australian models
Google’s Australian shop page lists the line-up and its main specifications:
- ASUS Googlebook 14: from A$2,799, Intel Core Ultra 5 or Ultra 7, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, a 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen and 1.00kg, with battery life of up to 16 hours.
- Dell XPS Googlebook: from A$2,399, Snapdragon X Elite, 16GB or 32GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, a 13.4-inch 2.5K LCD touchscreen and 1.09kg, with up to 18 hours.
- HP Googlebook 14: Snapdragon X Elite, 16GB or 32GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen and 1.22kg, with up to 19 hours.
- Lenovo Googlebook 15: Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of storage, a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen and 1.29kg, with up to 13 hours.
Google puts the starting price of the range at A$2,299 RRP. The battery figures are Google’s own claims, not results we have measured, and Google’s notes say actual battery life may be lower.
Subscriptions and updates
Each Googlebook comes with 12 months of Google AI Pro for eligible new subscribers, which includes 5TB of cloud storage. According to Google’s offer terms, the trial applies to an eligible Googlebook bought and activated on or after 1 October 2026, must be redeemed by 31 March 2027, and then renews at A$32.99 a month unless cancelled. Returning the laptop may cancel the subscription. Google also offers three months of YouTube Premium to eligible new users.
Google says Googlebook OS gets regular feature drops and updates for up to 10 years from launch. Security is built on the same architecture as ChromeOS, with Google’s Titan hardware root of trust, and an isolated Linux environment for developer tools.
What to check before buying
Google is selling Googlebook as a premium laptop, and the Australian prices reflect that. Much of its case rests on the phone features, which need an Android phone running Android 17 or later, so check your phone’s Android version first. If you use an iPhone, judge the laptop on its hardware, apps and Gemini features alone.
If you are choosing between configurations, our guide to how much RAM you need applies here too. And if you plan to keep the laptop for years, compare Google’s update promise with the support period of any alternative, as you would when checking how long a phone gets security updates.
